The tree's trunk is made out of the air, that is, carbon. It doesn’t come from the soil but from the air. And when it burns it releases that carbon back into the air.
The tree gets nutrition and information from below and from above. Nourishment from the soil, information from the sun.
The Two Trees of Valinor were Telperion and Laurelin, the Silver Tree and the Gold Tree that brought Light to the Land of the Valar in ancient times.
